It has been reported that Apple wants to stop using the ‘hey’ in “hey Siri”. Apparently, Apple is teaching the voice assistant Siri to understand commands without needing ‘hey’. “Hey Siri” is used to activate the Siri voice assistant on Apple products like the iPhone, iPad, HomePod, and Apple Watch. The change could start next

Yesterday (June 2), Gurman put in one final prediction before WWDC 2023 kicks off on Monday: that this move could come into force as early as next week. “Everyone is asking about Siri, AI and
Siri will say that its working on it, and then it will eventually say something went wrong. I found a number of things to try and I have tried most of them without any luck: rebooting the phone, hard restart, turn on/off airplane mode, on/off wifi, on/off/recalibrate Siri, reset network settings. Maybe a few other things.

After saving these settings and rebooting all of my devices, I have found that Siri will not activate unless I use the full "Hey Siri" prompt ("Oye Siri"). I would expect that, following the update and the adjustment to these settings, I should be able to activate Siri just by saying just "Siri" but this does not appear to be the case. From here, toggle the switch next to the Type to Siri option to activate it. From now on, whenever you summon Siri, your system will show you a text box and allow you to type instead of waiting

Beneath the "Ask Siri" heading you will see three toggles. We'd suggest turning them all on: Listen for "Hey Siri": This lets you use the phrase "Hey Siri" to get the digital assistant's attention. Press Side Button for Siri: This lets you press and hold the side button on iPhone X models or the home button on older models to activate Siri

The ability to set an alternative short phrase to activate Siri would make that feature much, much better. Perhaps a "Customize 'Hey Siri!'" button could be added to Settings. Tap on it. Say your customized activation phrase. Have Siri show it to you as text and ask you to repeat it again for confirmation. Approve it.
